[panel] All the Private Cloud? | @CloudExpo #IoT #PaaS #BigData #DataCenter

The Hybrid Era: Where Is All the Private Cloud? Enterprise IT has been in the era of Hybrid Cloud for some time now. But it seems most conversations about Hybrid are focused on integrating AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google ECM into existing on-premises systems. Where is all the Private Cloud? What do technology providers need to do to make their offerings more compelling? How should enterprise IT executives and buyers define their focus, needs, and roadmap, and communicate that clearly to the providers? In this power panel at Cloud Expo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger Strukhoff, panelists will address these serious questions and examine the state of public and private cloud in the enterprise. @ThingsExpo - The World's Largest 'Internet of Things' Event, November 1-3, 2016, at the Santa Clara Convention Center! The Business Case for Hybrid Cloud Services Adoption | @CloudExpo #API #Cloud #Storage

The Business Case for Hybrid Cloud Services Adoption Forging a viable business technology strategy for today’s global networked economy is a high priority for most forward-thinking CEOs across the globe. Their guidance to CIOs is to create the fusion between existing IT infrastructure and modern cloud services. Moreover, the shift to a Hybrid IT model must support the organization’s key commercial expansion objectives. The savvy leaders who have a superior approach can extract greater value from their legacy IT investments, and launch new initiatives based upon public and private cloud computing services. This is the new normal - CIOs must create the optimal blended environment for purposeful technology-enabled innovation. Primary Motivation A global study of 500 hybrid cloud decision makers revealed that organizations are increasingly integrating cloud computing and s... (more)

Hybrid Cloud Study | @CloudExpo @IBMCAI #Cloud #BigData #IoT #API

"We live in a world where companies must take advantage of all of their resources to succeed and deliver services and apps in an as a service model regardless of whether they reside in a public or private cloud or on their existing infrastructure," said IBM Global Technology Services General Manager for Systems Services Laura Sanders." Two-thirds of organizations implementing hybrid cloud report they're already gaining competitive advantage from their hybrid environments and are nearly three times as likely to use it to assemble data assets or monetize data, according to findings released by IBM (NYSE: IBM). With a hybrid cloud approach, organizations can be selective about when to use cloud and when to use traditional IT infrastructure - delivering the best functionality while meeting speed and flexibility needs, as well as resiliency, security and regulatory requi... From PaaS to SaaS to Hybrid Clouds

"I see almost no one running hybrid clouds," noted Seth Proctor, CTO of NuoDB, in this exclusive Q&A with Cloud Expo conference chairs Larry Carvalho and Vanessa Alvarez. "The few examples are usually public cloud deployments with backup and/or DR options in a private setup." Cloud Computing Journal: How are cloud standards playing a role in expanding adoption among users? Are standards helping new business models for service providers? Seth Proctor: I think the only standards are de facto standards like OpenStack or the AWS interfaces. Honestly there are no "cloud standards" I know of that are fueling adoption. What have become standard are the assumptions around virtualization, provisioning tools, monitoring methods, etc. Cloud Computing Journal: How are hybrid clouds evolving to allow the coexistence of private and public clouds? What are the challenges to meet... (more)

‘DevOps on Hybrid Cloud’ By @IBMcloud | @DevOpsSummit [#DevOps]

Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here In a world of ever-accelerating business cycles and fast-changing client expectations, the cloud increasingly serves as a growth engine and a path to new business models. Dynamic clouds enable businesses to continuously reinvent themselves, adapting their business processes, their service and software delivery and their operations to achieve speed-to-market and quick response to customer feedback. As the cloud evolves, the industry has multiple competing cloud technologies, offering on-premises and off-premises cloud platforms for both Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS). In parallel, cloud standards are also evolving, including community standards like OpenStack and CloudFoundry. Most organizations who are adopting the Cloud today are ending up adopting it in complex ‘dynamic-hybrid' environments. Th... (more)

What’s So Big About Big Data?

It's almost a strange sounding phrase isn't it? The rise of the term "Big Data" has been popularized to describe those data sets we now juggle with in the new world of cloud computing and massively distributed databases, fueled as they are by the multiplicity of desktop and mobile devices that now interconnect with our global data mountain. The question now is whether companies are having Big Data problems... or whether they are perhaps having Big Data problems, with Big Data. It is widely agreed that the secret to coping with Big Data is analytics. Without analytics, Big Data is just lots of data. With analytics we can bring contextualized qualitative and quantitative meaning to our data and this means we can start to extract value from it. Time perhaps then for a handful of home truths. From Bare Metal to Private Cloud, System Center VMM 2012 Delivers

Today cloud computing facilitated by virtualization continues emerging as the service delivery vehicle for IT to shorten go-to-market while facing unpredictable data patterns and workloads. The increasing complexities and growing user expectations make system management on the center stage of a cloud computing solution. In addition to automation, we now need a self-service model to fundamentally reduce the cost structure of required training and on-going maintenance. Besides processes and procedures, we now need work-flows and orchestration. The requirements for a management solution are now the abilities to identify and manage resources deployed to heterogeneous virtualization platforms in hybrid scenarios of cloud computing with predictability and repeatability. A single and unified platform with a consistent user experience to manage all IT resources including ph...
